Thomas Edison State College
Thomas Edison State College was founded in 1972 to "provide flexible, high-quality, collegiate learning opportunities for self-directed adults." Named after New Jersey inventor Thomas Alva Edison, who without ever attending college classes, educated himself. This is the cornerstone of the school's goal to allow measurable college-level knowledge that adults gain outside the classroom to be applied toward an academic degree.
Thomas Edison State College is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and offers associate, baccalaureate and master's degrees in more than 100 areas of study. Thomas Edison State College has no residency requirements. This means that a degree can be earned from approved credits from other colleges and universities, portfolio assessment, and examination programs such as TECEP, CLEP, DSST and ECE exams.
