Excelsior College
Excelsior was founded in 1971 by the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York as a publicly funded unit of the New York State Education Department. Regents became a private college In 1998. In 2001 the name was changed to Excelsior College. Excelsior is the State motto for New York and is Latin for Ever Upward.
Excelsior College offers associate, bachelor and master degrees in a variety of subjects. Excelsior College has no residency requirements. This means that a degree can be earned from approved credits from other colleges and universities, portfolio assessment, IT certification and examination programs such as CLEP, DSST, ECE and GRE subject exams.
Excelsior College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Its nursing programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Its baccalaureate degree programs in electronics engineering technology and nuclear engineering technology are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
